PIMLICO STAKES REDUCED Riggs Handicap Cut From 5,000 to 0,000 Added Discontinue Manly Memorial. BALTIMORE, Md., June 24. Another sign of the times has come in the announced cutting of the prize list of the Maryland Jockey Club for its fall meeting at the old Pimlico course. This oldest of the Maryland associations had built up its prizes to unusual bounty, but now there is to be some slashing to meet the existing conditions, and one prize is eliminated. The one that has been stricken from the program is the Manly Memorial Steeplechase, a prize to which 0,000 was added. The Riggs has been cut from 5,000 to 0,-000 added, and the various other prunings will save the club 9,000 in added money. All of these retrenchments have been made after a meeling with the Maryland State Racing Commission and a consideration of the returns from the short spring season. The Maryland Commission has permitted the four big courses in Maryland Pimlico, Havre de Grace, Laurel and Bowie to fix a purse minimum of ,000, while the new low for steeplechases has been fixed at ,500. This has been considered necessary for the health of racing in Maryland, and the cutting was permitted only after a close scrutiny of the returns from the sport at the spring meetings. In the meantime it is cheering to note that Edward Burke, the ruling spirit of the Harford Association at Havre de Grace, has made the announcement that he will continue his three 0,000 added stakes in the fall without any change.
