BIG DAY FOR CHOICES four Favorites in a Row Win at Washington Park. fcaronis Successes Continue When Upright Scores in Fourth Plunge on Big Brand. HOMEWOOD, 111., June 24 Backers of favorites reaped a harvest in the early races at Washington Park this afternoon when four straight public choices were successful. Although the program was one of the poorest of the meeting from the standpoint of Quality, the racing was exceptionally good and the ordinary performers staged some close finishes. The fine weather brought fcut an excellent week-day crowd. The success of the horses in the stable of A. A. Baroni, Reno turfman, continued when Upright scored over the mile and seventy yard distance in the fourth. Upright was the fourth favorite to win and he and jockey jW. Wright turned the trick in workmanlike fashion. Restrained slightly by his little rider in the early stages, Upright had considerable left when it came to a drive through the stretch and, galloping to the front of Traffic Judge, the early leader, won iwith something to spare. Martie Flynn, the dependable veteran, raced into second place and Traffic Judge lasted to save third jnoney from Finnic. The latter was also jwell backed, but was in some early trouble and could not make the grade. POPULAR COE SILKS. 1 Llandaff carried the silks of W. R. Coe to b. popular victory in the first race. Favored by drawing an inside post position, the colt broke quickly and was in front of his rivals at all times, winning by one length. Charley p., a half-brother of Mike Hall and Cathop, jmaking his first start was a game-going second and Bianoz, locally owned, finished third. A field of twelve participated in the vent which was at five and one-half fur-ongs. f: Doris Jean, the short-priced favorite, had Borne difficulty in winning the second race and it was not until the closing strides that her success was assured. Unable to keep up .with the early leaders, she was subjected to Some interference but her stamina proved a .valuable asset in the final rush and she got .up to win narrowly. Little America, for .which considerable play developed, showed much speed and gamely raced to second place to defeat Princess Ivre, the long shot pace setter. Six furlongs was the distance and it was Doris Jeans second straight victory. BIG BAND MAKES GOOD. One of the biggest plunges of the meeting developed for Big Brand in the third race and the colt did not fail, winning as he pleased. An outsider in the first mutuel reading, the son of Big Blaze was heavily backed until he went to the post a short priced favorite and his showing fully justi- fied the confidence placed in him. Unable to find his stride at once, he was shuffled back early but gained gradually thereafter and was going away in the last sixteenth. Renewed raced into second place while Subtlety outgamed the tiring Plucky Girl for third money. The race was over one mile and was for maidens. The horses which have been racing at Washington Park in charge of Roscoe Goose .Will be shipped to Latonia tonight. O. L. Foster, who returned from Kansas jCity, announced that he has purchased the .useful performer Outbound from Herbert M. ,Woolf and would campaign that racer at Arlington Park. T. P. Hayes got in from New York with Several horses. William Shelley and Larry Bogenschutz, ;who have been serving as judges at Washington Park, departed for Latonia last night, and their places in the stand today were filled by Francis P. Dunne and Emmett Hileman. Gallant Knight, preparing for the Francis B. Peabody Memorial Handicap, went seven furlongs in 1:30 this morning. Spanish Play, a nominee for the same race, breezed iahalf-mile in :50. MHBT- Russell has taken up the plater Sandy Hf which has been turned out for some Hand will campaign the animal at Ar-
