NEW SUN, shuffled back going to the first turn, came through on the inside, then went to the outside of SISS in the stretch, closed gamely and was up to win in the final strides. MAEBEE, a factor from the .start, closed fast under punishment and would have won in a few more strides. SISS showed good speed while taking command and hung on gamely. ARCHWOOD had a rough race. KINGS BOUNTY dwelt at the start, but came through between HIDDEN CITY and OLD FASHIONED in the final eighth and won going away. OLD FASHIONED raced HIDDEN CITY into defeat and held on gamely thereafter. ROMPRIDGE followed HIDDEN CITY closely until entering the stretch, then lost ground, but managed to outlast HIDDEN CITY. The latter showed good speed for half a mile. FAIRBROOM lacked arly speed. SUGAR JAR could not overtake the leaders. Scratched 72470 Bald Crest, 113; 71897 Spot Crest, 108. BUBBLING OUT, outrun for half a mile, worked his way up on the inside and finished gamely. PLAYING held on well to outlast LARRY DAMM. The latter improved his position steadily and finished resolutely. WESTWARD could not threaten the leaders. BOBBY POWERS was outrun. NORMAHAL closed a good gap. IRISH FUSILIER quit. BRONZE, under restraint, was deliberately sent up on the inside leaving the back stretch and was badly pocketed. LORD CARDIGAN was held safe.
