This was the principal Ijrace on a very attractive mid-week card Sand the result was the most popular with the tgood sized crowd that witnessed the running under ideal conditions. Manta clicked off ;jthe distance in 1:43 and it permitted her jto win by two and one-half lengths from jjRidgview, second choice to the winner, ifthird, a similar distance back, came Surf feoard, with Hoops, Playtime and Honey Locust completing the field. After Playtime and Ridgeview had raced ,jalong in the leading positions for three-jjquarters, the winner easily wore them down land, after wresting the lead from Ridge-ijview, came away when covering the closing Jxurlong, where Playtime quit badly, both purf Board and Hoops coming around him jcvithin less than an eighth of the mile. Mantas triumph marked the third in five fevents for the betting choices, the sport jgroving the most formful of the meeting. 1 SPECTACULAR FINISH. 1 In the closest and most exciting finish of the early afternoon, Glamorous, carrying the fpidgeview Stock Farm Stable colors of W. iF. Hausman, local owner, nosed out Dominant Miss for the honors in the Lassies jteurse, secondary feature. Just a neck back pf the leaders, Dreamy Belle, which ran a remp.rkable race after leaving the starting fcoint many lengths back of the others, took third by a half-length from Billies Orphan. . After showing the way in the early fur-Bongs, Billies Orphan gave way to Dominant flVliss, favorite, and the latter just failed to Jast after reaching the final one of the five fend one-half furlongs two lengths before iier closest rival. A belated burst of speed after H. R. Riley had brought her to the outside in the stretch won for Glamorous, but it probably was a lucky break for both the winner and Dominant Miss that Dreamy JBelle met with bad luck at the start, as her feffort clearly overshadowed those turned in by the two leaders. The sport opened with a popular and jpasily gained victory for Max Hirschs Swift jand True, odds-on choice, among twelve Inaidens of three-year-olds and over that liiet at three-quarters. Swift and True took pommand when ready at the stretch turn and, drawing into a long lead, won under yiouble "wraps" and by three lengths from JLight Eagle. Two lengths farther back Cjouie Dear, coupled in the betting with .fclasbys Choice, nosed out his stable com-Jpanion for third. The winner was ridden fy J. Smith and was saddled by William J. jHirsch. THIRD FOR AROUSE. Arouse was seen in his third winning performance in as many chances when he got andip to win over Hernando, Ridge Wise and six others of the better grade plater two-year-olds in the second race. Lucky to get hrough next to the rail in the stretch, the jyinner overtook Hernando, Ridge Wise and Swceprush with a rush and in rapid fashion is the sprint drew to a close. The finish found him drawing away a length before Hernando, which had only a nose over Ridge iltVise. The latter tired after showing the way in commanding fashion for more than four fend one-half furlongs and, in bearing out near the end, forced Hernando far out on the track. By Gracious carried E. R. Bradleys col- to victory over eleven others in the Pjbrs TTalton Purse, the third race, also for older aidens, over three-quarters. The Kentucky pwned filly proved easily the best. Jimmie Bmith, who was riding his second winner, brought her to the finish with a five lengths Continued on twenty-second page. MANTA IMPRESSIVELY Continued from first page. advantage over Minot. The latter was a length in the van of Quick Away at the end. The placed trio were the leaders after Honey Hunter tired on the stretch turn and Ledford, which was fourth, held the others safe during the last quarter.
