HAWTHORNES FINE MEETING Total of 24,455 Distributed During Twenty-Nine Days Racing. Belair Stud, Northway Stable and Reichert Bros. Largest Winners W. Knapp Tops Trainers and M. Lewis the Jockeys. The Hawthorne meeting of 1932 came to an end Friday, September 2, after twenty-nine days of racing, during which time 232 races were run and 24,455 was .distributed in stakes and purses for a daily average of 1,188. This was a rather remarkable showing, considering the times and further illustrates the popularity of racing in the Chicago district. Four major stake races were run and attracted some of the" best horses in the country, with Faireno winning the Hawthorne Handicap of 5,950, My Dandy the Illinois Handicap of ,100, Head Play the Juvenile Handicap of ,675 and Plucky Play the Hawthorne Gold Cup of 1,450. The Belair Stud with winnings of 9,950, Northway Stable with 6,550 and the W. C. and E. W. Reichert with 4,850 were the most successful of the owners participating in the racing.
