MANYA WINS IN CLOSE FINISH . Daughter of Master Charlie Captures Lynbrook Claiming Stakes. Outlasts Mr. Khayyam by a Matter of Inches After Spectacular Contest Breezing Thru a Big Disappointment. NEW YORK, N. Y., Oct. 4. John J. Robinson, New York attorney, furnished the winner of the Lynbrook Claiming Stakes, which was the monetary feature at Jamaica this afternoon. The winner turned tip in Manya, daughter of Master Charlie Mary Ford and her margin of victory was a matter of inches over the fast-closing Mr. Khayyam, which races for Mrs. Austins Catawba Farm, while a length back was J. H. Louch-heims popular choice Fancy Flight. Eight acqepted the conditions in the race, the one withdrawal being Miney Myerson, from the B. B. Stable. Manya was entered to be claimed for ,500. Manya showed a return to the form that characterized her efforts over the Jamaica track in the spring but, despite that fact, she was accorded but meager support. By her victory she added ,440 to her earnings. Little Lad, which went postward coupled with the winner, finished in fourth position. Clear weather prevailed for the afternoon and a good-sized crowd was on hand to witness, the sport. Well balanced fields started in the different events and thrilling finishes were in order. Little time was lost at the barrier in- the Lynbrook and the field left in good alignment. Manya was the quickest in motion, but she was quickly outrun by Fancy Flight and Flying Sailor. This pair raced along heads apart at a fast pace, while Pascuma was content to stay behind them on the inside with Manya, while Mr. Khayyam was in fourth place, with Capsheaf and Bolilee bringing up the rear. The early pace established by the leaders took its toll in the stretch and Flying Sailor tired and dropped back. Pascuma came to the outside of the leader and as he did Malley began his move with Mr. Khayyam. Little Lad, which had moved up fast, was steered through along the inner rail. Fancy Flight held on gamely to the final sixteenth and then gave way, while Manya and Mr. Khayyam staged a duel which ended in favor of the filly. Fancy Flight had a length advantage over Little Lad at the end. There was a pronounced upset in the second race when Breezing Thru, the heavily backed favorite, finished third to two outsiders in Peacock Alley and Brandon Prince, the first mentioned leading all the way to score by four lengths. Mrs. J. E. Nagles Peacock Alley, ridden by Robertson, was an easy winner of the second race of the day, a dash over a distance of ground A. J. Gadeks Brandon Prince finished second, while Breezing Thru, from Continued on twenty-second page MANYA WINS IN CLOSE FINISH Continued from first page. the B. B. Stable, was third. The race was marked by considerable crowding rounding the first turn, in which Traphal was the principal sufferer. He was knocked to his knees and the boy took up quickly to keep from going down. The Century Highweight Handicap, a dash of six furlongs, witnessed a clever victory for C. V. Whitneys Clotho, ridden by A. Robertson, over W. G. Andersons Fredrick, while George H. Bostwicks Masked Knight was far back in third place. The victory completed a double for Robertson, who had previously ridden Peacock Alley. Clotho turned in a smashing effort under the weight assignment and, after overcoming interference from Masked Knight, responded to pressure in the stretch and wore down Fredrick at the end. Masked Knight, after racing f orwardly in the early stages, faltered badly under his impost and at the finish was eased up. Dont Blush, a pronounced choice ridden by H. Mills, was an easy winner of the final race of the day. Array raced to the place, while Call Play was third. .The winner dominated the running throughout and never left the ultimate result in doubt.
