BRIGHT BUBBLE FIRST » Daughter of Bubbling Over Holds At Top Safe. • Orchid Purse at Churchill Downs ThriDing Stretch Duel Between Crack Fillies. • LOUISVILLE, Ky., May 16.— Bright Bubble, daughter of Bubbling Over, carried the racing colors of Samuel Furst, Cincinnati patron, to a hard-gained victory over the Shandon Farms At Top, H. P. Headleys Technique and three other three-year-old fillies in the Orchid Purse, final qualifying chance for the ,000 added Kentucky Oaks, and the outstanding race on todays program. At Top, the Jefferson Derby winner, gave the winner the stubbornest sort of a contest and the bitter manner in which they fought it out the entire length of the stretch compared with the most stirring drives witnessed during the meeting which has been replete with such racing. Charging past Dominant Miss, the early pacemaker, on the stretch turn, the winner, ridden by W. D. Wright, and At Top, astride which was R. Finnerty, had their furious battle under way when they straightened out for the long stretch run. For a short time At Top, which ruled a strong second choice to Technique, had her head in front, only to be outgamed by her rival in the final sixteenth. Technique, always in third place, failed to race within striking distance of the two closely-matched leaders, but came through with a game performance to beat Dominant Miss by six lengths for third "place. Bonnie Marita and Grania, which completed the field, were outclassed. The track was slow and following the race the winner, At Top, Technique and Dominant Miss were galloped out from an eighth to a quarter to complete their preparation for Saturdays race. Bright Bubble, which ran the seven furlongs of the Orchid Purse in 1:26%, went out a mile and one-eighth in 1:55%, while At Top went a mile in 1:40%. Technique went a -nile in 1:41 and Dominant Miss nine furlongs in 1:56%. While only seven from among the cheaper two-year-olds participated in the first race, at five furlongs, it was sharply contested and brought an interesting finish, in which Little Valley was a driving winner over Fighting Bob and Bay Servant. The victor, ridden by E. Porter in C. R. Valentines colors, wore down Bay Servant and then Fighting Bob in the final drive and at the end was a length before the latter, which outstayed Bay Servant by a like margin. Just a nose gave the latter the minor honors over Lucky Amelia, which finished strong. The popular Shandon Farm colors were seen in another triumph when the veteran La Salle took the second race for his first victory of the year. He was only a neck better than Birthday Gift and Betty Farrell garnered the smallest part of the purse. She was three lengths away from Birthday Gift at the finish. L. Ruder had the winner in front after three-eighths and, reaching the final furlong with a length advantage over Birthday Gift, he was good enough to withstand the latters stronger finish. Running Water, second choice to the winner, was fourth, with four others in his wake.
