| CHURCHILL DOWNS NOTES ] ♦ ♦ Due to mild sickness in the stable, trainer J. S. Middleton has postponed until next week the departure of Mrs. Payne Whitneys Greentree Stable for Washington Park. Sun Pay, a two-year-old owned by James C. Ellis, was killed by lightning while in a stable at Dade Park yesterday. The bolt did little or no damage to the stable. The large Dixiana string, in charge of Clyde Van Dusen and numbering twenty odd head, is listed for shipment to Washington Park Thursday night. The crack two year-old filly, Mata Hari, which many horsemen regard as the fastest youngster in the country, heads the stable and will fill a stake engagement during the Washington Park meeting. Van Dusen will also take along his own Ted Clark and Clyde Van Dusen. Karl Horvath is the Dixiana rider. John Marsch, a visitor here Monday, arranged with his trainer George Brooks to transfer fourteen of his horses to Washington Park on Friday. Mr. and Mrs. Charles Bacharach left for Chicago, where they will remain for several weeks of the Washington Park meeting. Mr. Bacharachs Southland Stable, embracing twelve head and including Playtime and My Hobby, which trainer John Daniels is bringing in from the farm, will be shipped to Lincoln Fields Sunday. Daniels is turning out Pass Christian and Frail for the summer. Don Meade, under suspension for thirty calendar days for rough riding while astride Brokers Tip in the Kentucky Derby, will break the suspension long enough to ride Col. E. R. Bradleys Barn Swallow in the Kentucky Oaks. This is permissible under the Kentucky rules. The main division of the Bradley stable will not get away for Belmont Park before Monday. At the same time eight of the Bradley horses will be shipped to Washington Park. This division will augment sixteen others now in Maryland, for the closing week of the Homewood track meeting. Charles Grayson plans to campaign El Puma and Chipola at Washington Park and Lincoln Fields. The stables of A. Baker, R. L. Baker and the Young Brothers go back to Lexington next week and from there will be shipped to Latonia a few days before the opening of the summer meeting at that Covington track. Jack Howard has selected twenty-four for the Chicago campaign and, barring unforeseen delay, will have the large string on the cars Friday night. He reported the crack and unbeaten three-year-old filly Advising Anna, which chalked up her fifth win yesterday, in fine fettle following the effort. Several smaller stables here will campaign at Riverside Park. J. P. Keezek is getting up a car for early departure for that Missouri track. The Peconic Stable, owned by James D. Norris, Jr., of Chicago, and trained by Eddie Hayward, is another getting out Thursday night for Washington Park. The stable had a very successful campaign here. C. C. Van Meter and S. S. Combs will have fourteen in a car leaving for Washington Park Thursday night. C. S. Ormsby is in charge of the Combs horses. Condition books for the Mount Royal and Blue Bonnets meeting were received here today. The meeting at the former track opens May 20 and Blue Bonnets on June 3. The W. E. Smith stable, which has played a prominent part in the Downs racing, goes to Latonia next week. Sickness in the stable moved trainer J. T. Weaver to decide against any further racing of the Smith horses before the Latonia season. Additional stables with Washington Park or Lincoln Fields reservations include: R. A. Kindred, five; W. G. Sparks, nine; T. F. Devereaux nine, and J. McGee, nine. The J. W. Parrish stable, getting away Thursday for Washington Park, will include Isaiah, New Baby, Depression, Old Lady, Slouchat, Lady Mary, New Deal, Howard and Woodlander, while that of T. H. McCaffrey leaving Friday comprises the following: Big Brand, Big Red, Red Cinders, Miss Marg, Smuggled In, Captain Bill and Flat-rock. F. F. Brant, trainer of the McCaffrey horses, has Eil-Weir and Maid of Honor racing under his own colors. Five owned by A. B. Letellier and headed by the good handicap racer Sazerac, will be shipped to Washington Park from here. If Bamboula comes out of the Kentucky Oaks in good condition, the A. A. Baroni stable will leave the Downs for Washington Park Sunday night. Others in this establishment include Waylayer, Upright, Ytfin, Calome, Watch Tower, Patsy Laura, Polly Cee. Voltina, Wirt G. Bowman and Lovely Hills. Trace Call, the Audley Farms American Derby hope, breezed three-eighths in :40 on a heavy track here this morning. Barring another setback, this son of Call Boy, which was taken down with a temperature on the eve of the Kentucky Derby, should be in fine condition for that Washington Park prize. Bamboula, the A. A. Baroni Kentucky Oaks candidate, breezed a mile on a tough track and around the "dogs" in 1:50 here Tuesday morning. This flashy winter performer is coming up to Saturdays race in fine fashion. J. K. Daugherty ships from here to Riverside Park. At present he plans to take six to that Kansas City track. A. Beck and C. E. Allen, on the ailing list, took the day off. Beck has a cold and Allen injured his right shoulder while riding Fortunate Youth Monday. C. Bruce Head and S. H. McMeekin will succeed M. Nathanson and C. F. Henry in important positions at Washington Park this year. Mr. Head will serve with C. F. Price and R. M. Sweitzer in the stewards* stand and Mr. McMeekin will be one of the placing judges and also clerk of the scales.
