H0MEW00D OFFICIALS HERE * Washington Park Officers Ready for Inaugural — Many Arrivals. ♦ Trainer Taylor Gets in With American Derby Candidate, Charley O., and Other Eastman Horses. — ♦ All is in readiness at Washington Park for the opening of the spring meeting next Monday. The officials are all here, headed by judge Charles F. Price, steward in charge of racing. William H. Shelley, veteran secretary and handicapper, has his office force in line for the acceptance of entries Saturday morning. Numerous stables which will have starters in the Washington Handicap, feature of the racing program Monday, arrived Friday. The course was in fine shape Friday morning after a light rain Thursday night. Track superintendent Tom Young had his full force on hand and he predicted a fast track for Monday, barring an excessive rain fall. Tommy Taylor, trainer of the Eastman estate horses, arrived at Washington Park with eight, including the American Derby candidate Charley O. and Cathop, who will go in the Washington Handicap Monday. Charlie Van Meter also got in with nine. In this entourage was Red Whisk, candidate for the American Derby as well as the Washington Handicap. Clyde Van Dusen, trainer of the Dixiana thoroughbreds, was an arrival with fourteen in one car, another car of a dozen or more Dixiana steeds will follow. In the entourage was Esseff, the fast High Time filly, Van Dusen plans to start in the Washington Handicap. On the same train were the horses of the Peconic Stable, Eddie Hayward in charge. Sewell Combs stable of six in charge of Collis Ormsby, with the fast filly Nituma and the speedy sprinter Back Log, heading the list With many of the best sprinters in America at Washington Park, it is expected that the Washington Handicap, opening feature, will call out such outstanding racers as Mr. Sponge, Polydorus, Fingal, Marmion, Don Leon, Esseff, Cathop, Gift of Roses, Footmark, Gold Step, Wotan, Don Romiro, Ebony . Lady, Marooned, Princess Camelia, Big Brand, Isaiah, Commuter, Ridge Wise, Evergold, Timely, Red Whisk and Pantaloons Announcement is made that the Illinois Central railroad will run an extra train Sunday morning for the benefit of those employed in the mechanical department of the Washington Park organization. This train will leave Randolph street at 10:15 a. m. daylight savings time, stopping at Van Buren street, Roosevelt road, Fifty-Third street, Sixty-Third street, Kensington and Harvey, arriving at Washington Park at 10:48 a. m. The train will leave Washington Park at 3:00 p. m. oclock.
