Taylor AURORA, 111., May 19. — A select field of six three-year-olds, most of them with impressive racing credentials, is scheduled to face the barrier at Exposition Park tomorrow for the first running of the ,000 added Illinois Derby, at a mile and a furlong. The fixture, the first of Chicagos trio of 1933 three-year-old specials, will likely be contested over a slow track. The naming of Charley O. in the overnight field, after the colt had made a hurried trip from Kentucky to Washington Park, has stimulated interest in tomorrows Derby. It was revealed today that J. H. Wilson, a Chicago sportsman and friend of the late R. M. Eastman, had purchased Charley O. from the Eastman estate and the colt would run in the colors of the Strathmore Stable, the name under which Mr. Wilson will conduct his racing campaign. Since his nomination, Charley O. has been an outstanding favorite for the stake because of his Florida Derby victory and his smashing third in the Kentucky Derbv, but with at least three formidable contenders ready to go to the post, it is not now likely that he will be backed to odds-on favoritism. Charley O. arrived at Washington Park Friday morning and he and the Audley Farm Stables Trace Call are expected to be vanned to Aurora a few hours before Derby post time. FREE GATE REMAINS. With the announcement by general manager Robert S Eddy. Jr., that the same free gate, which has been in force during the meeting, will prevail on Derby Day, and with pleasant racing weather promised,. *he , largest crowd ever seen at Aurora is certain. Gov. Henry Horner wired regrets that he cannot be on hand, but numerous other political and social leaders have reserved boxes. Charley O. and Trace Call are the only two thoroughbreds that have not yet arrived at Aurora. Col. Hatfield, dangerous because the racing strip is not quite fast, was brought over today and was given a public workout between races. The Louisiana Derby winner, which races for M. B. Cohen, is the probable third choice. Lon Jones Fair Rochester, a colt which raced so well in such races as the Clark Handicap at Churchill Downs that many concede him an excellent chance of beating Charley O., unloaded at Exposition Park yesterday. He was likewise a sharp horse before he left Kentucky and has been given no serious work since his arrival. Sweeprush came in with Fair Rochester, and is the real Derby dark horse. A few weeks ago he could have been claimed for a modest sum, but he has shown so much improvement of late that owner J. T. Looney believes he has an excellent Derby chance. Justice B., the extreme outsider in the field, has been at Aurora since the meeting opened but has not been particularly impressive to date. 1
