LILLYBET, well up from the start, wore down STIMBLE for the lead, but was unable to withstand the bid of the first two. AFRO AMERICAN lacked early spede, but closed willingly under pressure. STRONGHEART was never able to enter into serious contention. STIMBLE faltered badly after going three-quarters. BOLD BENDIGO closed with a belated rush through the stretch.
