WITHERS AT BELMONT PARK Eleven Three-Year-Olds Prospective Contestants in Famous Old Fixture. NEW YORK, N. Y., May 29. Another famous three year old stake is down for decision at Belmont Park this afternoon in the "Withers, first run. at old Jerome Park in 1874. This is at one mile and in its brilliant roster of winners may be found the names of. many champions of their time. For the Memorial Day renewal, the added money is ,000 and eleven of the eligibles are named through the entry box. Under the conditions of the Withers, all carry 118 pounds, just eight pounds below scale and of the eleven carded to start, there does not seem to be any that stands out with any degree of prominence over the others and for that reason .it should result in an excellent contest. James F. Johnsons Repaid, a colt that has been training brilliantly since his disappointment beginning this year at Havre de Grace, is among the prospective contestants. Then there is Joseph E. Wideners Golden Way, which seems to be coming to hand nicely. James Fitzsimmons has a likely pair in Utopian of the Wheatley Stable and H. C. Phipps De Valera. The latter was second to Mr. Khayyam in the running of the Wood, while Utopian was third to Head Play and Ladysman in the Preak-ness. Wilfred Pons Projectile is another that is named. C. V. Whitney is represented by The Darb, winner of the Jockey Club Stakes of last fall and Lee Rosenbergs swift running Kerry Patch, winner of the Futurity of last year, is of the company. Mrs. John Hay Whitney has Poppyman as her representative and Willis Sharpe Kilmer has chosen Dark Winter from among his eligibles. The other two, that complete the eleven are Edward R. Bradleys Boilermaker and Morton L. Schwartz Glorify. In addition to the Withers, the Westchester Racing Association offers as supplementary Decoration Day attractions the Fashion Stakes, for . two-year-olds, the Corinthian Steeplechase and Memorial Day Handicap.
