WICHITA CITY BEATS CHOICE Chips Finishes Second in Main Race Raceat at Duff erin Park Track Fast Fastfor for Final Races TORONTO Ont June 19 A dash over the seven furlongs distance under claiming conditions was the principal offering on Tuesdays card at Dufferin Park This brought together the small field of half a dozen Star Buckland furnished the winner in Wichita City The latter scored at the direct expense of the favorite Chips from the J E Smallman string and J H Blacks Mindreader earned the show position from the early pacemaker Lady Hockberger Candle Fly was next and Convention was last of the lot lotThe The field had no sooner reached their stalls than they were sent on their way Lady Hockberger had the most early speed and raced into a good lead in the first three furlongs the Buckland colt racing along in second place and Mindreader third There were no material changes in the running positions until near the far turn where Wichita City drew up on even terms with Lady Hockberger HockbergerLady Lady Hockberger saved ground on the turn and again moved into a brief lead The filly had given her best and Wichita City had little trouble in drawing clear midway on the turn and increased his lead to four lengths by the time the finish line was reached reachedIn In the stretch Lady Hockberger tired steadily and Chips after being restrained early moved into second place though at no stage was the Chatterton miss enabled to get within striking distance of the leader leaderIn In the final few strides Mindreader came along in time to catch the tiring Lady Hock ¬ berger to gain third by half a length The others had cut no figure in the running and were outrun throughout throughoutA A return to pleasant weather brought a big increase in the attendance The track after the drenching it had received Monday had dried out remarkably and though good for the first four events had turned fast by the time the fifth race was called to the post
