ARLINGTON PARK NOTES John B Campbell Arlington Parks new racing secretary after giving the north side course his first inspection Monday made the prediction that Chicago racing fans would give their immediate approval to contests over the turf The veteran official has had much experience with tracks where racing over the grass has been offered and the Arlington turf course appealed to him so much that he believes contests over it will add enjoymentFor much to the publics enjoyment For the first week of the meeting which gets under way Monday two races over the grass course are programmed The first of these will be staged Tuesday and the second on Friday Both will be at a mile and one sixteenth with a 1000 purse Many of the stables shipping to Arlington contain likely prospects for turf races their trainers have informed Mr Campbell and large fields are expected for the two turf events to be staged during opening week weekThe The influx of thoroughbreds to the north side course will take on momentum during the next few days Among the heaviest shipments from Detroit are those of Mrs John Hertz and Charles Bacharachs South ¬ land Stable which will leave Detroit Wednesday night and arrive at Arlington the following morning The Hertz horses are in charge of Frank Hackett and they will be accompanied here by jockey Earl Steffen Cliff Porter looks after the New Orleans sportsmans horses which number 17 head headWhatever Whatever owner is fortunate enough to win the Classic on July 14 will receive in addition to the major portion of the 45000 purse a handsome antique trophy bearing the London hallmark for the year of 1809 It is a George III antique silvergilt cup with cover having a band of chasing and acanthus leaf decoration around the body A racing scene showing two horses with jockeys up is on the front The makers were Benjamin and John Smith SmithThe The downtown office of Arlington Park at 33 N La Salle Street has received many requests for season badges for both the enclosure and grandstand sections since the special halfprice offer was decided upon Saturday by the executive committee
