HAWTHORNES NEW PADDOCK ♦ Located Directly on Finish Line Between Clubhouse and Grandstand. 1 Entire Plant Redecorated and Parking Space Enlarged — Much Interest in Next Sundays Test of Electric "Eye.** • The biggest physical change in the Hawthorne race track that will greet racegoers when the popular west side track opens its meeting July 30 will be a new paddock. It is located directly on the finish line, between the clubhouse and the grandstand section, on the site of the old lunch room. The outdoor paddock has been done away with and has been replaced by landscaping, thus adding to the beauty of the infield. The old indoor paddock at the extreme end of the stand also has been torn out and a horsemens lounge installed. The new paddock has a short runway I leading to the track, while there is an entrance at the rear, making it more convenient for horses stabled at Sportsmans Park. Clubhouse patrons, who formerly had to trudge almost a quarter of a mile to the old indoor paddock or content themselves I with a long distance view of the infield paddock, now find it onl a few feet from their 1 seats. There is room for several thousand people to look em over before the race. The gate from the clubhouse to the grand- i stand has been removed and a new one installed at the regular clubhouse gate. A i walk has been constructed in the rear of the new paddock, while the back end of the , stand at this point has been opened so as to avoid congestion. This walk also connects with the main grandstand entrance, so that clubhouse patrons coming to the ■ track by train may use it to reach their section. There has been no change in the mutuel plant. Continued on twenty-second page. HAWTHORNES NEW PADDOCK Continued from first page. In ordering this change, Albert Sabath, president of the Chicago Business Mens Racing Association, had in mind the convenience of the public, as well as the horse- men. The new arrangement brings everything right down to the finish line. For this meeting the racing secretarys office and jockeys room will remain on their old site. Next year new quarters will be constructed just above the paddock. The office formerly occupied by track superintendent Ben Miller, loca ted to the left of the main grandstand entrance, has been removed to the extreme east end of the plant and a new exit created on the old site to facilitate the homeward movement of patrons. The entire plant has been redecorated and the parking spaces filled in and leveled off and likewise enlarged. A second entrance to the clubhouse has been constructed at the west end of that section, thus adding to the convenience of those who motor to the track. With the exception nf a few minor details and the final brushing up of the plant, old Hawthorne is now ready for its thirty-day meeting. Considerable interest is being shown in the test of the new electrical "eye" timing j device set for this Sunday, whei. three races will be run off as a public d monstration of this innovation. Racing officials, as well as the public, are invited. The first race will be sent away promptly at 11 a. m.
