1 EMPIRE CITY TURF NOTES ] ® g Julie Frank, for many years associated with the late Maxie Blumenthal upon the lawns of the New York tracks, died at his home, 175 Stratford Road, Brooklyn, Thursday. Funeral announcement will be made later. W. J. Hughes arrived from Poolesville, Md., with six untried three-year-olds that he will race here. Previous to the running of the first race Thursday Saint Kitts and Currants, members of the Greentree Stable, were breezed five furlongs in 1:02%. Currants was looked upon as the two-year-old champion at New Orleans last winter. James J. Mahoney, one-time blacksmith for the Belmont Stable and of late years associated with the Long Beach, Long Island, police department, died at his Queens Village home Wednesday after a brief illness. He was well known to the older generation of horsemen, and had three sons who rode with success. They are James, now a trainer, Willie and Johnny. In addition he is survived by his widow and two daughters. Funeral announcement will be made later. Jockey Kurtsinger returned from Rockingham Park, where he rode Slapdash in a stake engagement. Jockey R. Workman returned from Rockingham but later, receiving word from trainer Healey, left for the New Hampshire track. — •
