BANDMAN raced RUSTIC QUEEN into early defeat and, drawing clear on the stretch turn, held on gamely in the drive. ROMOLA began in a tangle, worked her way up on the outside and finished resolutely. CRYSTAL BEACH, pinched back leaving the back stretch, came again when clear. FAINE was close up all the way and had no mishaps. HERCULANEUM could not reach the leaders. ROSE BRANCH was on the outside all the way. RUSTIC QUEEN showed speed for three eighths. GOGGLES and CAVE GIRL were always outrun. Scratched— 9358PFitz U., 113; 98449 Emerald Lake, 106. SUE JONES, steadied in front, shook off CHANSON BELLE, but could not hold the winner. GIFT ROMAN, bothered by the riderless ROYAL QUESTION in the earlv stages, finished gamely. CHANSON BELLE tired in the opening three-eighths. CRAIGCO was unable to improve his position. PLAYING was done early. MR. DICK sulked. SIR ROLAND quit. ROYAL QUESTION unseated his rider at the start.
