HADAGAL LONE CHICAGO CLASSIC REPRESENTATIVE r w SPEEDY WRIGHT COLT Named as Sure Starter After Final Satisfactory Trial at 11/4 Miles. ■ Peace Chance Continues to Show Improvement, but Trainer Coyne Is Reserving Final Decision. , - • ARLINGTON HEIGHTS, 111., July 12.— Warren Wrights Hadagal will be the lone Chicago representative in the field for the 5,000 added Classic to be staged at Arlington Park Saturday afternoon. The speedy three-year-old son of Sir Gallahad III. and Erne had his final trial for the mile and a quarter special this morning when he was sent the full distance by trainer Bert Williams. Hadagal came through his performance in such satisfying fashion that trainer Williams said the colt would be a sure starter if the track is fast, and that he was as fit to run the trying Classic distance as any other horse. "Hadagal has never been tested over a route," trainer Williams said, "but I know he is a colt of great speed and he will make trouble as far as he goes." The track for the workout was in slow condition and Hadagal was timed the trial in 2:15, being eased up at the finish. He went the opening quarter in : 25%, half in :52%, three-quarters in 1:19, mile in 1:46, and mile and a furlongs in 2:00%. He will be ridden Saturday by Eddie Arcaro. The Wright colt has been seen under silks twice this season. In the first he defeated Indian Runner and Evergold by noses after running three-quarters in 1:10%. He received one pound on the scale from the crack Indian Runner in the race. A few days later he was beaten a length by Gay Monarch in the time of 1:10%, the fastest of the meeting, and Hadagal had up 117 pounds, eleven more than was carried by the winner. Because of having won the Champagne Stakes last year, Hadagal must carry 121 pounds in the Classic, and he will be in receipt of five pounds from Cavalcade and Peace Chance if the latter starts. Peace Chance continues to show steady improvement from the wrenched knee he suffered earlier in the week, and trainer Pete Coyne is reserving final decision on starting the colt. He received a cablegram from his employer, Joseph E. Widener, to make every possible effort to start Peace Chance. Norman Churchs Riskulus completed his preparation for the Classic after the races Wednesday, when lie went a mile in 1:42 and was eased up a mile and an eighth in 1:57. He was accompanied by Sundot for the first half mile, which he did in :48%, and the three-quarters was completed in 1:14%. The track was heavy at the time.
