BAY MEADOWS ASKS FOR EXTENSION 1 SAN MATEO, Calif., April 6 Evidently of the belief that Tanforan will not be ready to open on its scheduled date of April 20, William P. Kyne, general manager of Bay Meadows stated Saturday that he would ask the California Horse Racing Board to grant Bay Meadows an indefinite extension of the present meeting. "Now that the session is under way, the California Jockey Club wishes to operate the present meeting at Bay Meadows as long as possible," said Kyne. "To that end we have changed, our plans regarding closing April 13 and will ask permission of the board to carry on until Tanforan is ready to open." John Marchbank, owner of Tanforan. stated a few days ago that the San Bruno plant, on which 00,000 worth of improvements is being made, would be complete and ready to open on April 20. Should the Tanforan meeting get under way. on that date, Bay Meadows, if granted an extension, will likely close April 19.
