1 GENERAL NEWS OF THE DAY s s The Chevrolet Motor Company closed the Toledo plant Tuesday, throwing 2,340 men out of work as members of the United Automobile Workers Federal Union walked out on strike. President William Green of the American Federation of Labor is qoted from Washington as saying that "the strike may spread to other automobile factories." From Paris, France, a dispatch intimates that Germany has placed about ,500,000,000 abroad for use as a "war chest." A score or more collectors for the Globe Life Insurance Company were held up Tuesday morning in the concerns branch office at 4394 Archer Avenue by a lone bandit, who escaped with between ,000 and ,600 in cash. A woman was burned to death Tuesday in one of a series of ten fires that were touched off by a pyromaniac in the Rogers Park District. A young girl was seriously burned in the same fire.
