SMALLMAN SILKS VICTORIOUS 1 Feudal Lord Easily Best in Bend Or Plate at Woodbine. Spring Moon Graduates at Long Odds In Opening Race -Veteran Prometheus Barns Purse. TORONTO, OntMay 21. Feudal Lord, five-year-old son of imported Stefan the Great and Dust Whirl, racing for J. E. Smallman of London, Ont., was never out of hand to defeat four other sprinters of the claiming bridage in the Bend Or Plate, the six furlongs feature of a- card for, the,, cheaper horses at Woodbine this afternoon. -The Smallman sprinter won easily by two lengths, with the fight all behind him, where T. S. Cochenours Worthy Duke took second place by a head from D. R. Stuarts Desert Call. Feudal Lords victory was popular with the patrons. He was an odds-on favorite in the small field and won like one. Accomplished Bobby Watson rode a confident race, restraining the Smallman gelding within striking distance of an alternating pace duel between Worthy Duke and Ree, for the first half mile. Once straightened out in the front stretch Feudal Lord moved strongly to the front still under wraps and at the end was still under restraint. Worthy Duke, which was making his first start since wintering here, turned in a promising effort. He was in the van for the first quarter mile until he allowed the lightly weighted Ree to take command under sufferance. The latter tired at the head of the stretch, and -Worthy Duke came again as Desert Call moved sharply and outgamed the latter at the end. Erindale Stables Spring Moon, a rank outsider in the wagering, drove to a surprise graduation over ten other Canadian-bred maiden two-year-olds in the four and one-half furlongs first race. The dusky-; coated daughter of Frisius and Summer Moon had been educated in the Goodwood Plate opening day, and showed sharp improvement. Passero, on the Erindale filly, cut over sharply at the start, and she took command entering the front stretch. She, gamely held off Silviris by three-quarters of a length "at the end. Silviris and Osirian, the favored Parkwood Stable pair, finished second and third, respectively. Prometheus, eight-year-old veteran of the claiming brigade which is still a fairly reliable purse winner, galloped to an easy , victory over eleven other lowly claiming platers in the second race. Jockey Frank Mann was never forced to ask the old plater for his best, rating his mount close to the early pace to the head of the stretch, and then sending him up with a rush to supplant Meloy, the favorite and early leader, inside the final furlong post Border Knight finished resolutely to take second, two lengths back of the winner and a length in advance of the tiring Meloy. Timon, which began in front, was in the thick of the fight most of the way .and managed to save fourth place at the end. W. J. Watermans Trajectory, a consistent winner around the Ontario independent circuit last year, scored a handy victory over eleven others of ,000 claiming caliber in the fourth race, which was a split of the second. Don Vern was second arid Dunlins Lad third, while The Miner, which closed favorite, was a tiring fourth. Trajectory was making his seasons debut and came to the race at peak form. Lady Marnock, after an unsuccessful winter campaign, returned to the winners circle in her first appearance of the local season by defeating six others over six furlongs in the fifth race. Trey and Heiress, the split favorites, were second and third, respectively. Apprentice Lindberg, leading rider at the meeting, scored his seventh victory in three days astride the six-year-old daughter of By George II. He allowed her to settle into stride in the run through the back stretch and then improved her position in the run around the turn. In the drive to the last line Lady Marnock responded gamely to Lindbergs urging and got up to win by a half length in the last seventy yards. J.E. Smallman, trainer G. Alexandra and jockey R. Watson completed a winning double when Feudal Lords score was capped by Bushmans victory in the sixth race. Just Fun was second, and Candle Fly third in the field of five. Despite the small field, the race was hard fought throughout. Just Fun set the ealy pace, but entering the stretch any one of the five was in a position to win. Bushman came with a rush throughout the final furlong and at the end was hard urged to be a length In advance of Just Fun. "
