WHITNEYS GATHER AT HAVRE John Hays, C. V.s and Mrs. Payne Whitneys Horses to Strive for Purses at Maryland Track. HAVRE DE GRACE, Md., April 3 The Whitney family, long pillars of American racing, will make a serious bid for purses during the Harford Agricultural and Breeders Associations fourteen-day session, which starts Monday, April 13. Trainer Bill Brennan is sending a division of Mrs. Payne Whitneys Greentree Stable down from Red Bank, N. J. It will later be joined by the division, which John M. Gaver is campaigning at Bowie for the New York sportswoman. Big Bill Norton will ship the division of John Hay Whitneys stable up from Bowie at the conclusion of the present racing at this point. Cornelius Vanderbilt Whitneys famous eton blue and brown silks will be carried by the big band which trainer T. J. Healey has been prepping in Kentucky. Whether Tom will come on to handle the Whitney horses or send his son, Jack Healey, wasnt specified when applications for stalls were made to superintendent James Ross. The Whitneys have been liberal nominators to the four stakes to be run here. The ,000 Harford on opening day has attracted Mrs. Payne Whitneys First Minstrel and Sailor Beware, C. V. Whitneys Triumphant and Trumpery and J. H. Whitneys Singing Wood. The 0,000 Chesapeake on April 18, which is the Easts final tryout for the Kentucky Derby, will .see C. V. Whitneys Tatterdemalion, Triumphant and Bright Plumage and Mrs. Payne Whitneys Galsac and Jamboree fighting for the right to represent the East in the- Kentucky Derby. Drowsy and Somali will be Mrs. Payne Whitneys representatives in the ,500 Aberdeen on April 28. The same event will be sought after by C. V. Whitneys Abaft and Goose Cry and J. H. Whitneys Pasha and Tall Oak. Mrs. Payne Whitneys First Minstrel and Peradventure, C. V. Whitneys Tatterdemalion and Triumphant and J. H. Whitneys Singing Wood are nominees for the ,500 Philadelphia on April 25. The Whitney family wont lack for capable riders as Sonny Workman is available for C. V. Whitneys division, with Silvio Coucci and Bobby Jones looking after J. H. Whitneys and Mrs. Payne Whitneys horses. Horsemen, who have been granted stall space here, can ship in at once. The track is in tip-top condition and two-year-olds are being given daily schooling out of the Bahr stall starting gate. The Charles M. Waite "electrical eye," which was adopted by the Maryland Racing Commission to photograph all finishes on state mile tracks, will be introduced to racegoers during the approaching meeting.
