1 TANFORAN TURF NOTES 3 $, Joe Grossman, former San Diego sports editor and now connected with the publicity department of the New York State Racing commission, has departed for the East after spending a few days in San Diego. Ace Hudkins, owner of Look Out Below and other animals, was an arrival from Los Angeles. Hudkins because of his former popularity in San Francisco boxing rings, is well known in the Bay District. Tom Sharkey, former great heavyweight and later an employe on many tracks throughout the country, is devoting his time to a successful cafe business in down town San Francisco. E. Marshall has been engaged to train Hattie Mae and Gold Return for George Blake. H. T. Palmer, Jr., has applied for seven stalls at Bay Meadows. The names of his horses were not listed in the request for stalls. Young Palmer was engaged to train for Hunt Stromberg, Hollywood producer, at the Santa Anita meeting. B. L. Kidwell, Portland, Ore., trainer has been engaged to train the two-year-olds owned by Senator J. N. McFadden, chairman of the Oregon Racing Commission. Senator McFaddens horses are at Bay Meadows. Kidwell was granted a trainers license Thursday. J. A. Packer took over the training of Star Brook, No No and Proprietor for H. H. Tubbs, of Hot Springs, Ark. Jockey A. Gray drew a three-day suspension for disobedience at the post Thursday. He was set down by the starter. John Maluvius, entry clerk and patrol judge at Tanforan, has been engaged to serve in an official capacity at Detroit during the summer meeting. Other Tanforan officials to work at Detroit are starter Eddie Thomas, racing secretary Webb Everett and judge James F. Gallagher. James C. McGill, Tanforan paddock and patrol judge, will be one of the officials at the summer meeting at Longacres. George W. Schilling, Eddie Thomas, Russell Sanders and R. E. Leighninger are other local men that will be in the Longacres official family. James N. Crofton, who recently returned from a trip to Oklahoma and Texas, is building up a stable for summer racing. He recently claimed the California-breds Kent and Chief Almgren. . i !
