The latter, forced to race wide when improving his position, responded fast in the stretch and was wearing down the winner at the end. LITTLE UPSET sprinted into a good cad early, but tired in the drive. EAGLE PASS closed with a rush. PATTI, shuffled back entering the st: Ach, made up ground when clear. PETROSE quit. JOHN BANE, well up from the start, moved up with a rush after racing three-eighths, responded to strong urging when taking command and withstood ALL DEVIL at the end. The latter, away well but shuffled back soon afterward, worked his way forward steadily, improved his position fast in the stretch and was wearing down the winner at the end. MARCH STEP forced the early pace under light urging, took the lead when ready, drew away rapidly, but tired in the drive. GRAY PORTE, outrun for three-eighths, closed with a rush. MAH GRANT, never far back and under good handling, held on well. QUASIMODO, lucky to find racing room when improving his position, showed a good effort. GIFT OF ROSES tired. BILL DONOGHUE quit. CONTINUITY, in close quarters early and pinched back at the far turn, came around the field when racing forwardly and closed with a rush. CALIBAN sprinted into a clear lead in the opening quarter, gave way when challenged and bore in during the final eighth. BEREIT was blocked when improving his position in the drive. ORINOCO, away slowly and outrun for three-eighths, was forced to lose ground when reaching the lead, but gave way in the drive. ZENKA made up ground. ORTHOPRISM had no mishaps. CHATTERFOL quit. BUGABOO, never far back, moved up with a rush after racing five-eighths, but tired near the end. EMPRESS YVONNE forced the pace under strong handling, but tired in the final stages. CALEB, used up in the pacemaking, . quit rapidly in the final quarter. MICHIGAN LAD had no mishaps. ONEILL raced evenly. MATHIESON showed little. Overweight Flabbergast,- 4 pounds; Mathieson, 2.
