MORE ARLINGTON CHANGES Waggoners Elated Over Success of Current Texas Meeting. First Task Will Be Reconditioning of Both Tracks Reroof Barns, Add New Shrubbery and Trees. ARLINGTON, Texas, April 4. Highly elated with the tremendous success of the current spring meeting at Arlington Downs, E. Paul Waggoner, who takes more than passing interest in the affairs of the big racing plant Saturday conferred with superintendent Jack Hayes over improvements to be started immediately after the meeting closes, and later instructed Hayes to have his augmented crew ready to begin work on Monday, April 27, two days after the closing day. Hayes first duty will be to recondition both tracks, having each in racing condition fbr the start of the fall Centennial meeting, dates for which will be announced later; re-roof most of the barns and build additional ones in anticipation of the influx of thoroughbreds in the fall; work over the shore line of the infield lake; grade and possibly pave the parking space, largest on the North American continent, in order that the anticipated Centennial crowds can be handled in record time; grade and make over all roads in and about the vast Three Ds Stock Farm, and inspect the clubhouse, with a view of making an addition thereto if it becomes necessary before the start of the fall. Location of the press box continues to remain unsettled, but it is thought that the augmented box now in use will suffice for the fall and subsequent meetings in that it is almost directly over the finish line on both tracks and moving it elsewhere might work a hardship on the caller and writers viewing the proceedings. New shrubbery, following the Waggoner custom, will be added at various points through the grounds and additional shade trees planted in the barn enclosure, adding to those which already have been placed in position. The same soil which was used to resurface the inside track and which has brought this track to perfection for the spring meeting, will be used again in resurfacing both courses, according to Mr. Waggoner. This soil, conceded to be the finest in the country for race tracks, comes from a pit just a few miles outside of Arlington. Jt contains every essential in track top soil, and could not be more perfect if it were made to order on Hayes specifications.
