r -i OMAHA SIGNS NATHANSON AS PRESSING STEWARD ...... ... OMAHA, Neb., April 4. Ak-Sar-Ben racing officials, through chairman W. H. Schellberg, have announced that Martin Nathanson of Chicago, has been engaged to serve as presiding steward at the Ak-Sar-Ben thirty-three-day meeting, scheduled to open here May 28. Nathanson succeeds Dr. Frederic W. Ashe, who was presiding steward at the 1935 meeting. He is the third key man to be named for the 1936 meeting. Others are racing secretary E. W. Bury and starter Jack Hodgins. Nathanson, who resigned as sports editor of the old Chicago Herald in 1894 to take up race officiating, has served at all five Chicago track and most of the other tracks in America. He saw fifteen seasons of service at Havana, Cuba. He will come to Omaha early in May, he has informed Ak-Sar-Ben officials. A large crew of workmen will be put to work late this week preparing the Omaha track for its second race meeting since 1929. Many changes are contemplated.
