GUIDELIGHT, quickest to begin, followed the pace of POLVOS PRIDE close to the stretch, then raced to the front and drew out in the stretch. POLVOS PRIDE displayed fine early speed, but was tiring at the finish and barely lasted to save second place. BROWNEYED PAT was in close quarters early, but came gamely to save ground in the stretch and was going strongly next to the rail at the finish. LOOK OUT BELOW lost ground by racing wide and his rider had difficulty keeping him straight in the stretch. EVERY EFFORT could not keep up. NORTHCUTT came very fast on the outside after leaving the back stretch to challenge BON MOON in the last eighth and outfinished the latter in a drive. BON MOON, hustled to the front at once, displayed good early speed and held on in courageous style. LEEWARD was taken up when in close quarters on the far turn and, coming to the outside in the stretch, finished gamely. CRYSTAL IMAGE was used up reaching a contending position in the back stretch and had little left. BROAD ROYAL was in close quarters while racing on the inside. AFRIDI was outrun early but came very fast on the outside when called upon and, closing with a rush, got up to win in the final strides-. LOVE SICK opened up a good lead at once, was restrained a trifle while making the pace and had enough left to withstand the challenges from LITTLE URCHIN and NUGENT, but could not resist the winner. NUGENT ran a strong race, challenged for the leadership several times and finished close up. LITTLE URCHIN was in close quarters rounding the far turn and again near the finish and showed a good effort. DRASTIC GOAL made a strong run in the stretch and was in close quarters Hearing the finish. HIGH SUN lost ground by racing wide and tired. DON FERNANDO pulled up slightly lame. SALZ was in close quarters while making a run in the back stretch and took up slightly, then came to the outside to catch HAUOLI in the last sixteenth, but, although going gamely to the end, was beaten narrowly. NACHO moved up fast after leaving the back stretch and raced strongly to the finish. RUSSET was permitted to drop far back of the leaders in the early running, closed well and might have been dangerous had he been hustled along. CHAZZAN was in close quarters while racing on the inside in the early running. MY GENTLEMAN showed a poor effort and can do better. SHASTA FIRE dropped out of it when the real racing began.
