j CHURCHILL DOWNS NOTES . The regular annual pre-season meeting of the state racing commission will be held Friday, the eve of the opening of Churchill I Downs meeting. Consideration of recom-j mendations of its license committee, consist-ing of C. F. Price, C. B. Head and T. C. I Bradley, and other matters pertaining to the season, will engage the commission at this meeting. The racing board is composed of Polk Laffoon, chairman, W. E. Smith, S. S. Combs, Frazier Lebus and T. E. Mueller. Harry Myer, an executive of the Mason Foundation, was a visitor and he spent Thursday morning with J. T. Taylor, trainer of Mrs. S. B. Masons stable. Hubert "Tex" Callahan, who is connected with the Valdina Stock Farm, has obtained Charles Louenstein to make his engagements here. Charles C. Van Meter, one of the older Kentucky horsemen and who has developed a number of high class racers, has three which he owns himself, two which he owns in partnership with Roy Carruthers and two the property of Mrs. Roy Carruthers. The older Cessna and the two-year-olds Putzen, a bay colt by Sweep All Chop Box, and Zingali, a bay colt by Infinite Zosora, are owned by Van Meter while he owns Kabo and Undated with Carruthers. The two which Mrs. Carruthers has are two-year-olds, Miss Sycamore, a bay filly by Phar-amond II. Vanish, and Kondie, a chestnut gelding by Last Reveille Wonderful One. Fifteen horses all of them except two belonging to C. E. Hagyard, owned by T. C. and Thomas Piatt, are in the stable which I J. P. Sallee is training for the coming sea son. The older performers in the Piatt string are Listening, Master Beau, Byrdel, Watched, China Gal, Mr. Mack, Byrdine and Dux. Only one of the two-year-olds has been named and it is Macawlee, a brown filly by Macaw and Yulee. The other juveniles are a black colt by Bostonian Gray Watch; a chestnut filly by Transmute -Watchola; a. bay filly by Transmute La Lula, and a brown filly by Mad Hatter Chicle Light The Hagyard horses are Ottoman and an unnamed bay two-year-old colt by Chicle Flyleaf. . Racing secretary William H. Shelley, is closing entries for the Peewee Valley Handicap to be run Tuesday, at the usual time Saturday. The race is for three-year-olds and upward and will be decided over seven furlongs. Weights and declarations are due Monday. Only two two-year-olds are incluled in the draft of horses which Frank Chiavetta is training for F. L. Murrays Brentwood Stable. One is General Pillow, a chestnut colt by Hourless and Coffin, and the other is Attainment, a chestnut filly by Carlaris and Tonow. The other horses, headed by the good handicap performer Late Date, are Wild Turkey, Say Murray, Rippalong, Pulaski, Ste. Iris and two unnamed three-year-olds. Gabriel, a bay two-year-old colt by Busy American Alma Dear, is the only horse which Stanley Hazzard has at this time to carry his colors, but he is training four more for J. A. Wests Kenton Farm Stable. Two of them, older horses, are Roberta and Indian Head, while the remaining two are juveniles. The youngsters are British Tan, a chestnut colt, by Thunderstorm Colonade, and Kenton Maid, a black daughter of Thunderstorm Kenton Girl.
