1 BAY MEADOWS TURF NOTES 8 V Governor Frank F. Merriam advised William P. Kyne he will pay an official visit to the Bay Meadows course during the present meeting, probably on California Day, May 2. The endurance event, second of the series to be run Saturday at a mile and three-quarters, has been named the Embassy Club Cup by manager W. P. Kyne. The Embassy Club will be present with a delegation of 100 from the club headed by Joe Vanucci and will offer the winning jockey a handsome trophy. Charles F. Roe, assistant manager of the Prairie Thoroughbred Association, reports that he has a special train arranged for the Winnipeg tracks. The train will leave following the Bay Meadow, season. Roe reports extremely heavy reservations for the Winnipeg tracks. There will be no confusion between Winnipeg and the two Pacific coast center summer racing meets, Long-acres and Vancouver, so the horses from the Winnipeg circuit will swing west following the meeting there. J. Bolser was granted a trainers license. He will train West Star and other horses for E. A. Moran. "Grandpappy" James is in the horse business. Basil James, not the rider, but the riders grandfather, yesterday purchased Swift Return and Noahs Dream from L. W. Kidd. He has engaged Edgar Freeman to train the racers for him. Basil James, the jockey, was brought up by his grandparents, his mother and father having died when he was quite young. Trent, useful member of the Pasadena Stable, will be sent to the farm at San Ysidro, Calif. Trent will be fireed and turned out. Trainer Willie Molter plans to pick up the two-year-old late in the "fall and put him in training again. Harry Walters, well known Oregon turfman, returned from his farm at Prineville. Jockey Bill Robertson makes his return to the saddle Friday on Coldwater. He has been out of the stirrups since last fall when his foot was broken at the gate on Cold-water. Sir Ridgway, from the Rancho San Luis Rey, is training in good style. He has wintered at the farm at Bonsall, Calif. Jockey Russell Sperry, former leading rider at Tanforan last fall, will wed Miss Eleanor Buella of South San Francisco. The ceremony will take place Saturday evening.
