TAMALPIAS headed SMALL MORTGAGE after going a quarter to take a good lead and, saving ground. , vas never in danger thereafter, winning easily. JOE FLORES raced wide throughout and lost much ground, but outfinished SHASTA BANNER. The latter tired in the stretch as if short. WILDLAND came fast to save much ground around the last two turns and, hugging the rail in the stretch, outfinished HARROGATE in a drive. HARROGATE had the most early speed but hung under hard riding near the finish. MAKE AND BREAK, much the best, was immediately taken back to last place, when he stumbled soon after the start and was permitted to trail to the far turn, then came very fast and was gaining rapidly at the end. SILVER KIEV displayed fair early speed and showed a good effort. NATALIE ALICE closed some ground. FAIR QUEST acted badly at the post and, started from outside the gate, could not keep up. DIGNIFIED closed much ground in the last quarter and was gaining on the winner slowly at the end. GERTIE was never far away and responded gamely to hard urging in the stretch. SQUEEZEll was taken back in the early part and closed much ground in the run home. AMERICAN EMBLEM weakened after making a strong move around the stretch turn. UNCLE LESS showed fine early speed but dropped back when the real racing began. BLACKMAIL was close up for half a mile, then bled and was pulled up. BYE LO saved ground while racing under restraint in the early part, came fast to get through a narrow opening rounding the stretch turn and, wearing down UPPERMOST, was going away under pressure at the finish. UPPERMOST followed TARPAULIN closely for half the distance, then went to the front, and withstood a stretch challenge from IN CHANCERY but was unable to hold the winner. IN CHANCERY raced well up and saved ground in the stretch to threaten, but weakened near the finish. MR. BUN, although racing wide, showed a creditable effort and probably needed the race. GREENWALD gained steadily on the outside and finished gamely to best DUNES. The latter had. the most early speed, but weakened in the stretch. BOURBON PRINCE improved his position steadily after going half a mile and was racing well at the Finish. JIM X. was caught in close quarters early. POLLY CEE had speed for three-quarters then tired.
