I AURORA TURF NOTES I s : e Racing secretary Leigh announced that he had received the nomination of Mrs. P. A. B. Wideners Dnieper for the Illinois Derby, 2,000 added, to be run May 22. Dnieper, second in the Florida Derby to Brevity, brings the first important eastern horse in the local classic. General manager Robert S. Eddy, Jr., announced that on Sunday the Fox Valley Jockey Club would hold "open house" for the visitors who will want to come out and inspect the Aurora plant. The workmen are putting the finishing touches on the grounds and new improvements made and it is expected that many Chicagoans will motor out j to see the largest mutuel plant in the country. It measures 419 feet from end to end. The resurfaced track is another improvement which will be new to Aurora j patrons as well as a new odds board, en-larged floor space in the betting ring and added concession booths. There were many horses on the track Thursday morning and several fine gallops were reported by the dockers, including a good work by Cristate of the Jim Chesney barn. The horses of Mark Cox TJI. were unloaded, coming from Cheyenne, Wyo. Secretary Leigh received word from Dallas Thursday by long distance telephone that eight express cars would leave the Downs track on Sunday morning bound for Aurora. They include several of the Derby candidates Lolschen, Flag Cadet, which broke the track record for a mile and seventy yards on Wednesday; Palm Island, Professor Paul, Rushaway, winner of the Louisiana Derby and second in the Texas Derby, Reaping and others.
