=Q MICROPHONES SIXTH VICTORY # Jacobs Colorbearer Earns Another Purse at Jamaica. ♦ Johnny Gilbert Pilots Two Winners, Greedy and Microphone — Track Conditions Cause Withdrawals. NEW YORK, N. Y., May 4.— Mrs. Ethel D. Jacobs Microphone won his sixth race in a row when he scored in the Canter Handi- | cap at Jamaica this afternoon. He began . his winning streak at Hialeah Park in Florida and since that time has been built up from a sprinter to something better when the last three winning efforts were ! at distances greater than a mile, the Canter j being a gallop of a mile and a sixteenth. In this the old son of Flying Ebony j splashed through muddy going to win with j Wheatley Stables Faust running second, and Mrs. John Hertz Our Reigh a close third ; and well before Fraidy Cat, the only other ! starter. The heavy rain of Sunday night and morning showers changed the track condition and as a result there were several withdrawals from the original card, but form was well conserved and a big crowd was fairly successful in locating the winners. In the Canter, the four left on the same | stride, but Fraidy Cat headed Microphone going to the first turn, then before the back stretch was reached the son of Apprehension appeared to come over slightly and Gilbert took Microphone up, with the result that the Headley gelding drew away to a lead of two lengths. Our Reigh was far back of the leading pair, but steadily out-footing Faust. Continued on twenty-sixth page. I . I ; l . I r MICROPHONES SIXTH VICTORY ! I , t Continued from first page. J i In the back stretch run Gilbert roused j J Microphone again, with the result that in the run through the stretch he raced past I I * Fraidy Cat and drew away to a lead of two j lengths, where he was given a breather, and j ! £ he had no trouble in holding his advantage, j j ! Three furlongs from home Our Reigh began | l. to gain on Fraidy Cat and when the stretch | was reached it appeared he would run down , the Headley colorbearer, but under a drive Fraidy Cat stuck it out to save second place [ by a nose, but he was a length and a half i J back of the old Flying Ebony horse. | i Faust had never figured in the running I | j and was six lengths back of the others as j I ] he crossed the line. This race completed a | double for Johnny Gilbert, who had the j I mount on Warren Wrights Greedy in the j previous race. I j j Polycletus, at home in the muddy going, i 1 was winner of the opening six-furlong dash, j i with Abner finishing at his heels, while Laird i j 1 was a distant third, beating Sage Girl for ; : third. i From a good start, Laird jumped to the i j lead, but Polycletus was racing closely after -I I him and the pair were soon out four lengths j j before Abner, which was leading the others j in the small field. This order was main- tained through the back stretch, but at the three-furlong pole Polycletus shook off Laird ! [ and at the head of the stretch he was three lengths clear. In the meantime, Abner was making up ground steadily and before the furlong pole in the stretch was reached he had disposed of Laird. He continued to close on Polycletus to be beaten only a length while he was five lengths before Laird. Sage Girl and Flying Hoofs, the only other starters, I were outrun all the way. The second race, another six-furlong dash, ] j saw Townsend B. Martins Stubbs, the winner over A. D. B. Pratts Sunport, with John Hay Whitneys Gleeman saving third from Gold Mesh that raced for Mrs. William Ziegler, Jr., This was a dash that was confined to the three-year-olds. With no delay ] J at the post, Stubbs began fast, and Litzen-berger sent him along so smartly that he 1 forced the pace all the way. Gleeman made an effort to run him down and the pair were soon out half a dozen j lengths before the others, but the son of Royal Minstrel tired under that pace and it coat him second place. Greedy proved the winner of the third I I offering when she led home Warrior Queen I and Stylistic. Johnny Gilbert, on the winner, , ! j was guilty of crossing his field early, and I I I in something of a mixup, Belle Elan was 5 . • knocked out of the running, while stylistic I | also met with interference and was shuffled I j j back in her inside position After taking! r command, Greedy was rushed right along I | and at the head of the stietch she was a I length to the good. There Workman moved . up resolutely on the inside with Warrior Queen and there was a spirited duel all through the final quarter. In this drive Greedy hung on with good courage to still have her head in front at the line. Stylistic, coming again after her early misfortune, was third, three lengths away, and only a I head before Dizzy Dame, one that had shown speed all through the running.
