I WINTER HORSES FAIL IN DERBY LOUISVILLE, Ky., May 4.— Derby tradition prevailed once more at Churchill Downs Saturday when the winner failed to come from among the group of winter-raced horses and the filly Gold Seeker, try-I ing to duplicate the victory of Regret 1915, the only one of this sex listed among winners of the prize, went down decisively. Bold Venture, like all but a few of the Derby winners did no campaigning during the winter. He had his early three-year-old preparation at Columbia, S. C, whence he was transferred to New York about a month ago. The Derby was his second start this year, he having previously won an allowance race before leaving New York. Starters in the Derby that raced in the South and West during the winter were Brevity, Indian Broom, Holl Image, Gold Seeker, He Did, The Fighter and Sangreal. Coldstream and Bien Joli which finished in fourth and fifth places, also rested during the cold months.
