GREENTREE STABLE VICTORY V Sailor Beware Takes Measure of Enthusiasm at Pimlico. Favored Billy Bee Unplaced in Eutavv Purse — Sunned Defeats Good Band in Third Race. ♦— . BALTIMORE, Md. May 7 — Support was centered on Billy Bee to account for the Eutaw Purse, best race on this afternoons Pimlico program but the Detroit-owned gelding was effectively boxed in the stretch run and finished unplaced among the seven fair sprinters as the victory went to the Greentree Stables Sailor Beware with John Hay Whitneys Enthusiasm second and Miss Ethel Hills Home Loan third. They were separated from each other by a head while Wise Sister was a half length away in fourth position. As summerlike weather prevailed, another good crowd was in attendance. The track was fast but Sailor Beware required l:124,i to run the dislance of the feature under his impost of 119 pounds. He was the third choice in the wagering. Enthusiasm, set a steady pace under the powerful restraining ! tactics of Harry Richards with Sailor Be- j ware at his throat latch. Billy Bee was in third place, three lengths away in the run down the back stretch while Highpool was fourth. In the run around the turn Billy Bee continued under restraint with Bryson apparently waiting for the leaders to tire, but Enthusiasm held his lead as Richards maintained his stout hold. Wise Sister moved up on the outside to take third place a length before Highpool and Billy Bee. Right after the field straightened out for the run home an opening appeared between the leaders and Bryson called on Billy Bee to go through it, but before the horse could re-1 spond, Enthusiasm came off the rail to close the gap and the favorite was unable to stage his finishing rush. Enthusiasm was called upon in the final sixteenth but Sailor Beware proved too much for him and took command in the final few strides. Wise Sister tired and Home Loan slipped up on the inside of Enthusiasm to take third place. Regal Lily, daughter of Man o War and Regal Lady in the stable of Walter M. Jeffords, made good for the talent in winning the first event, which attracted a dozen maiden two-year-old fillies. Regal Lily had to be hard ridden by Harry Richards all the way to get the verdict by a half length over True Tune, while Care For was well back in third place with Tonianna fourth. Regal Lily broke fast but was outrun by True Tune and the latter crossed over in front of her approaching the stretch turn. However, under the steady handling of Richards, the Jeffords miss gained steadily on the outside throughout the straightaway to get to the front fifty yards from the wire. Caniento became the second favorite to score when he led all the way in the steeplechase but the H. R. Bain gelding had to be roused during the final half mile to stave off two bids from Little Woman, a half length separating them at the end of the two mile ourney. Dangay was fifteen lengths back in third place while Ice Man was fourth. Ridden by P. McGinnis, Caniento went to the front immediately and opened up a good lead but he was rated along smoothly and when Little Woman challenged at the twelfth fence he drew away again. The latter charged again through the stretch but was j i not equal to the task of wearing down the Masked Marvel II. gelding as McGinnis put up a strong finish. Closing with a strong rush on the outside, E. K. Brysons Black Scout took the third race, a dash of six furlongs engaging ten cheap Maryland-bred platers. Ridden by H. Dabson, Black Scout came from fourth place to defeat Riding High by a length and a quarter, while Black Toreador was two lengths away in third place with Adams Eve, I coupled with Jacamar as the favored Adams I entry, taking fourth. Riding High went to the front at the start and was rated along well but she tired in the final furlong as the gelding of The Scout and Ebony Belle made his run. Tug Boat challenged boldly around the turn but quit in the stretch. Despite his impost of 123 pounds. Sunned was able to take his eight rivals into camp in the fourth event, a dash of six furlongs for middle grade platers.
