| [ BASHFORD MANOR STAKES Crack Field of Juveniles Certain for Saturdays ,000 Feature at Churchill Downs. LOUISVILLE, Ky., May 7. — Although Worth and Black Gold were the only Kentucky Derby victors to have annexed the Bashford Manor Stakes, many of the winners of this important juvenile fixture, which tops Churchill Downs Saturday program, and which had its inception in 1902, have been favorites for Americas renowned classic. Black Gold won the 1923 renewal of the Bashford Manor Stakes the day before Zev was triumphant in the Kentucky classic. Worths victory was in 1912. Coldstream, winner of the 1935 running of the Juvenile Stakes, was one of the choices for this years Derby, while St. Bernard was also highly regarded for last years Derby, won by Omaha. Clyde Van Dusen, who is considered one of Americas leading trainers of two-year-olds, has an opportunity of saddling his third Bashford Manor winner. In 1926 he prepared the late W. E. Applegates Torchilla for his winning engagement. In High, which carried Charles T. Fishers Dixiana colors in 1932, also was trained by Van Dusen. Van Dusen has seven eligibles in his barn. Foolish Moment, Woof, Sweepalot and Shootin High have been successful at this meeting. It appears hard to choose between them. Sweepalots victory over Fast Express and Ginocchio, in which he went the distance in :53, within three-fifths of a second of the track record for four and one-half furlongs, was most impressive of the quintet. Among others pointing for the race are Kermay, Five Sisters, Dr. Menendez. Josh, Little Empress, Dogaway, Murph, Reaping Reward, Proph, Grey Count, Busy Lutrecia, Heelfly, High Polish and others. Several eligibles for the five-furlong sprint, which carries ,000 in added money, were under colors in the St. Helens Purse this afternoon.
