LE MISERABLE, well up from the start and raced wide, moved up under light urging on the stretch turn, closed resolutely under strong pressure and, wearing down MISS FLICKER, drew clear in the final fifty yards. The latter displayed the most speed from the start, raced wide early, but was taken to the inside on the stretch turn and held on fairly well when placed to vigorous riding, but could not withstand the winner. KAPENA raced wide throughout, improved his position gradually and was going well in the closing stages. ROYAL BIRD tired in the stretch. KISSIE had no mishaps. COFFEE CUP began slowly. MIGHTY QUICK was badly outrun throughout and pulled up lame. LO was through after a half mile. DANCE PRINCESS showed little in her dull effort. SHUFFLE OFF pulled up sore. JULIAN, closest to the pace from the start and racing wide throughout, held on with good courage under strong handing after reaching the final three-sixteenths and was up in the final stride. MISS BALKO, away fast and having the most speed, was stoutly shaken up soon after reaching the stretch, where she con. tinued well to the last seventy yards before faltering. GRACE CAROME bettered her position gradually and wore down BETH MACAW in the closing strides. The latter, a factor from the start, held on well in her even effort. DENBIGH had no excuses. TIMBERLINE began sluggishly and lacked its usual late speed. REAL ONE showed little. DARK FRIEND, away very slowly, was outrun. Photograph used to check finish. DARK SEEKER, close up from the start, took a short lead on the stretch turn, but was headed by HAREM QUEEN in the drive and, holding on courageously, regained command as HAREM QUEEN tired suddenly in the last seventy yards. HAREM QUEEN, swerving throughout and having speed from the start, faltered in the late staees and could rot hold the winner. JULIA GRANT, on the inside early, came out in the stretch and closed well under light pressure. GOODBYE BLUES held on well. SHIRLEY B. raced wide. CHEROKEE RED, away in a tangle, could not get up. MARGARET G., well up from the start and bearing in badly throughout, took command with a rush as the leaders bore out on the stretch turn and, opening up a long lead, won without need of strong urging. AURIFEROUS, away slowly and badly outrun for a half mile, bore over badly while coming with good delayed speed in the final quarter. TOBACCO, away fast but unable to keep up, saved much ground and tired after moving up with a rush in the stretch. MORETIDE raced to a contending position quickly on the stretch turn, but tired in the final eighth. REGISTERITE was racing close up and, under restraint when she followed EXCHANGE CLUB out on the turn, tiring when straight in the stretch. TRIPLE PLAY dropped out of it suddenly. VALDINA took command easily, was steadied along for five-eighths, responded when shaken up in the stretch and, drawing into a long lead, won in hand. PALAN, well handled, improved his position gradually and, closing resolutely, held WISE DART safe. The latter, raced wide, dropped back on the turn and rallied only mildly when stoutly urged in the final quarter, but outstayed AMNERIS. The latter, shuffled back on the turn, went well when clear. RECUSSION, away slowly, failed to rally when only lightly roused leaving the back stretch and, lacking its usual late speed, Was never a factor. TEDALL quit. BARBARA A., forced to lose ground when taking command in the first quarter, was rated under steadying restraint to the stretch, where after coming out she continued well, but energetically ridden the final three-sixteenths probably had little left. EXPONENT, away slowly, bettered his position steadily and without need of urging before reaching the final half mile stood mild pressure gamely the last five-sixteenths, but did not endanger the winner. BOILING POINT, under strong reserve for five-eighths, failed to rally when placed to stout urging, yet held on fairly well. HIGH DIVER saved ground throughout and had no mishaps.
