Both Unbeaten To Date and Are Co-Holders of the Three-Eighths Mile American Track Record. Two undefeated fillies, each a co-holder of the worlds record for three furlongs, have been named to meet in the 0,000 Princess Pat Stakes, the two-year-old filly feature to be run Saturday, June 12 at the Washington Park race track. The record-breaking youngsters are Alfred Gwynne Vanderbilts Balking, and Sally Shall, owned by Lyons Brown and John B. Fetter, Louisville horsemen. Balking did her record equalling at the Santa Anita track, while Sally Snails only start was at Hialcah Park, where she galloped home in record time, five lengths before her field. They are among the 147 youngsters still eligible for the first running of the Princess Pat, which will have a gross value ranking it among the most valuable races on the American turf. The Washington Park meeting opens May 24, and runs for thirty days, during which the 5,000 American Derby, and the 0,000 Futurity also will be contested, as well as four other stakes. EXTREME SPEED. Both Balking and Sally Shall ran the three furlongs in thirty-three seconds flat on their first appearances under colors. Balking had one other test at the same route and was a galloping winner in :33. Sally Shall has not been out since her easy conquest. Both have shown such a high turn of speed, that, though they are in a sense untried, veteran horsemen believe they will be able to go over a greater distance of ground with success. Balking is a daughter of the great sprinter, Balko, from Bodega. Sally Shall is a daughter of Whiskaway Arrowpoint. Balking is black, Sally Shall, a chestnut, but so far no other horse has been near enough to either to find this out. As the fleetest misses developed in Florida and California during the past winter, a meeting between the two is eagerly awaited. Another Princess Pat eligible, the Star-mount Stables Catalysis, is as highly touted as the two record-holders, for this daughter of Stimulus Catalpa won the Nursery Stakes No. 2 from the best fillies in Florida, Sally Shall excepted, and showed a liking for more distance. She is one of three named by the New Orleans Stable, while Balking also has a stablemate entered in Hurrying Along, a daughter of Gallant Fox which has yet to face the barrier for young Mr. Vanderbilt.
