looked like the winner at the head of the stretch but quit badly in the drive as Wicked Time was rated third Wicked Time under Charley Stevenson saved ground com ¬ ing into the stretch and that accounted for the score Stringalong dropped back badly in the stretch then came on again at the eighth post to make a strong biS for the win ¬ ning end The filly was covering plenty of ground in the final eighth but simply was not equal to the task of beating the horse which Wicked Time proved to be this afternoon afternoonSWEEPALOT SWEEPALOT IN FRONT FRONTDixiana Dixiana won its second race of the after ¬ noon when Sweepalot was a frontrunning victor in the mile and seventy yards of the sixth race which brought together some betterthanaverage threeyearolds threeyearoldsThe The Dixiana representative was taken to the front going to the first turn and Charley Stevenson sat confidently on the gelding until approaching the eighth post where Gallant Eagle forged into second place dis ¬ placing Lee Hastings a istablemate to the winner after he had run along in second position until reaching the stretch Going down the back stretch the entry drew away from the field and it appeared as if the Dixiana colors were going to finish onetwo They took their time coming around the final turn but when Charley Stevenson looked back and saw Gallant Eagle coming up fast on the outside he drew his whip and gave Sweepalot a brushing up The Sweep All gelding responded quickly and was set down into his best stride to be home winner by a full length Lee Hastings tired badly in the final hundred yards permitting Gallant Eagle to take second place by two and onehalf lengths Myron finish fourth proving much the best of the remainder of the field Zor a maiden which was well backed into second favoritism showed an indifferent effort effortLINLACE LINLACE REPEATER REPEATERWilliam William McGraths Linlace a horse that ran a powerful race in her last start came back to score in the opener at six furlongs At the end of the journey under a well judged ride from Johnny Deering she was a neck clear of Mrs F P Coltilettis Fool em J F Letendres Dr Heiman finished third a half length back of the mount completed a Daily Double of 3170 which incidentally was also the favored combination in the Daily Double pool poolEXCITING EXCITING DUEL DUELLaddie Laddie Stone from the stable of Merle Simmons and T F Swords Real Jam staged a twohorse dingdong race when they raced head and head for the entire six fur ¬ longs in the third It was Laddie Stone which rushed up in the first furlong to take a lead of a length and a half while Real Jam which had held up the start for over ten minutes because of his unruliness at the post got away winging but was taken up by Jackie and brought down close to the in ¬ side rail He rushed up on even terms with Laddie Stone in the first threesixteenths and from that stage of the running until the finish a head was the greatest margin separating them at any part of the running Laddie Stone led around the far turn and into the final straightaway Approaching the run for home Real Jam forged to the front taking command by a head and looked a certain winner as Laddie Stone was in on the rail and being ridden close but J Rich ¬ ard never let up on the Sir Gallahad gelding and at the sixteenth post went to a vicious drive and got the gelding home by the slightest of margins The fitter duel be ¬ tween the two took them out two and a half lengths in front of Good Dame which was but a neck in advance of Clean Sport SportWISE WISE KING BY NECK NECKWise Wise King from the stable of Mrs Paul A Shaw repeated a good effort of a few days back but failed to quit in the stretch At the finish he was still in front by a neck after making all the pace John Werring which was second here on opening day raced right back to his good effort to finish second a length in advance of Sky Lad There was a casualty in the race Imme ¬ diately after the start Gift of Roses break ¬ ing third and running in that position about one hundred yards was suddenly taken up and Frank Catrone fell from the mare She pulled herself up at the fivesixteenths post and upon examination after the race it was found she had broken a leg in the running and was destroyed Die Hard the favorite ran another bad race
