EQUIPOISE DERBY ABSENTEE The marvelous Equipoise one of Americas greatest race horses which finished his rac ¬ ing career in 1935 the second largest money winner in the world the holder of the worlds record for one mile the outstanding horse of both 1932 and 1933 also champion handicap horse of 1934 did not start in the Kentucky Derby He was entered for the fiftyseventh running in 1931 together with Twenty Grand Mate and other celebrities of that year and for a time ruled winter book favorite Later he suffered defeat in the Preakness and trained so poorly after reaching Louisville that he was finally with ¬ drawn at 1 p m the day of the Derby Twenty Grand won the race in the new track record time of 201 which replaced the long standing mark of Old Rosebud
