DONERAIL DERBY OF 1913 LOUISVILLE Ky May 6 Twentythree years ago Tom Hayes who has passed the Great Divide was the produest horseman in America and Roscoe Goose was the proudest jockey Donerail had brought joy to them by conquering Ten Point the pride of the East Gowell and others in the 1913 renewal of the Kentucky Derby and returned the record payoff in the history of the race raceGoose Goose of a great riding family does little riding today but he is still one of the leading trainers in the country and now more than a dozen horses are quartered in his barn at Churchill Downs He was a finished jockey when he brought Donerail home on the chin strap and rode for many years afterwards Owner Hayes saddled Head Play for that nevertobeforgotten duel with Brokers Tip and tightened the girth on the son of My Play when he won the Preakness
