ILLINOIS OWNER WINS Sir Midas Takes Washington Park Feature in Reichert Silks Grey Count Disappoints by Finishing FinishingThird Third Scatter Brain Best Bestin in Third Race HOMEWOOD 111 June 1 Sir Midas owned by W C Reichert of Belleville 111 which had not been able to win since the New Orleans season turned in one of his more impressive performances to capture the Chicago Heights Purse one mile and seventy yards feature of todays program at Washington Park here In turning back four other threeyearolds among them E E Fogelsons heavilybacked Grey Count the son of Golden Guinea ran the distance over a fast track in 142 which placed him a neck in front at the end endGrey Grey Count an intended starter in the Latonia Derby June 12 could finish no bet ¬ ter than third three lengths behind the runnerup Coronium the only filly in the race while Teddy Green an eligible for both the Latonia and American Derbys fin ¬ ished fourth Come to Taw was the only other contestant contestantSir Sir Midas ridden by Alfred Robertson and paying 1560 for 2 in the mutuels trailed the others for about a half mile and then began moving up without the need of strong pressure Minstrel subdued Middle i Brook inside the final eighth and drawing away fast won by three lengths Middle Brook saved second place by a length as Saxlen finished third and My Chickadee next Wendy Nash achieved a hardearned victory in the seven furlongs second event An 8 to 1 shot in the betting he got the decision by a neck as Bohemian Lass beat Western Slope a head for second place Charles Centennial showed the way through the early furlongs by a wide margin but gave way badly in the drive Real One turned in a good perform ¬ ance in finishing second for she trailed the field the first quarter and had not greatly improved her position after going a half mile Paplay was eliminated on the turn when his bridle broke and his rider E E Phillips had to pull up and dismount dismountSCATTER SCATTER BRAIN REGISTERS REGISTERSPhil Phil Reuter saddled his first winner of the meeting when he sent Scatter Brain owned by A C Rose of Chicago out to take the fourth event decided over a mile and seventy yards Ridden by Irving Anderson and the favorite in the betting Scatter Brain set his own pace and won by a half length The Rose racer bore out under the lash of Andersons whip at the head of the stretch and then swerved in in the final eighth but finished courageously to achieve his victory Minton was second to complete the journey with third honors falling to Margaret G Sea Ted was best of the others Wee Emma was closest to the winners pace for about a half mile and then gradually dropped back
