TRIUMPHS AT FIRST ASKING Ceaseless Wins First Start Under UnderColors Colors of W Waterman New NewOwner Owner Thorncliffe Opens TORONTO Ont June 1 Ceaseless four yearold unsexed son of Ed Crump and Im ¬ mortelle and claimed in his last start from the E F Seagrams estate by W Waterman accounted for his first effort for his new owner when he drove to a half length vic ¬ tory in the running of the Lou E Marsh Memorial Purse feature of the opening day of the Thorncliffe Park spring meeting Idle Along from the Cosgrave Stable raced to second place a length and a half before her stablemate Battling Girl GirlW W C Hannas homebred Trickys Son took fourth money from the Medway Sta ¬ bles Peedeeque Nights End Torcheen and Fair Countess made up the remainder of the field and finished in that order orderThe The event carried a value of 1200 and was named in memory of the late sporting editor of the Toronto Daily Star Seven thousand turf enthusiasts witnessed the program which was conducted under ideal weather conditions and ov2r a fast track trackThere There was an eight and onehalf minutes delay at the start caused by the unruly actions of Ceaseless Torcheen and Trickys Son and the trio were placed on the outside Starter Clark sent the field away in good order and the Cosgrave Stables Idle Along sprinted into the lead As they made the first turn Idle Along held a length margin followed by Ceaseless while Nights End was in third place The same positions were maintained through the back stretch while Battling Girl was saving ground on the inside in fourth place placeAs As they made the turn into the stretch Courtney called on Ceaseless and he re ¬ sponded quickly and as they reached the last furlong post he had drawn into a length lead Courtney was again forced to urge the Waterman gelding as he began to tire and managed to have a half length margin as the finish was reached Idle Along after giving way to the winner held on doggedly and coming again was slowly overhauling him at the end
