SEEKING RESORT BUSINESS Col Seymour Weiss Believes Oral OralBetting Betting at Fair Grounds Would WouldWork Work Advantageously NEW ORLEANS La June 1 New Or ¬ leans is going after winter resort business with more effort than ever before and I dont mean maybe said Col Seymour Weiss president of the Roosevelt Hotel during the course of an interview dealing with the possibility of the restoration of oral betting as the system of wagering at the Fair Grounds here next winter winterAs As far as the hotel men of this city are concerned a drive for more winter visitors soon to be launched will be the biggest ever attempted and we have assurances that all civic organizations and numerous business associations will participate in it itIn In connection with the possible return of oral betting at the Fair Grounds all I can say at this time is that it has been more or less informally discussed by officials of the Louisiana Jockey Club and certain business interests There is a strong indication that the question may come up formally in the near future although we understand that a strong objection to any such change at the track prevails within the Louisiana Jockey Club Should this be overcome I personally believe that oral betting entirely devoid of a syndicate arrangement would work out ad vantageously for both the track and our city
