VANCOUVER SCHEDULE CUT Columbia Downs to Race Saturdays Saturdaysand and Sundays Only Weekday WeekdayAttendance Attendance Very Small VANCOUVER Wash June 1 Racing at Columbia Downs Vancouver Wash is a1 paying proposition on Saturdays and Sun days In other words they take in enough money to pay the purees and help Therea little if any profit So from now on they will race Saturdays and Sundays only onlyWe We may as well tell the truth about it said manager Irving Hildenbrandt last night On week days we have very little patronage Vancouver is a very small town and the citizens are occupied in their vari ous jobs so they cannnot go to the races racesPortland Portland nearby is a large city but they are not particularly interested in horses ye and they wait until Saturday and Sunday Rather than try to pretend were doing well and wind up with a lot of obligations that might be difficult to take care of were going to be absolutely frank about it there ari not enough racing fans in this territory at the present time to conduct the sport throughout the week as it should be run So well simply confine our activities to those days on which there will be sufficient pa ¬ tronage to assure to the public the horsenien and any person that might be interested that the meeting willbe conducted as it should be
