MISGIVINGS GRADUATES GRADUATESJuvenile Juvenile Shows Promise in First Appearance Under Silks Runs Five Furlongs in 100 to Win by Four Lengths Fly Time Second in Detroit Race DETROIT Mich June 1 Misgivings a Michiganbred daughter of Apprehension and Weideleen carried the colors of Thomas B Cromwell Kentucky publisher to a sur ¬ prise and easy victory in the fourth event and one of the principal races offered at the Fair Grounds by the Detroit Racing Associa ¬ tion this afternoon afternoonThe The speedy filly which was making her debut took command at the start to make every post a winning one and cover the five furlongs in 100 She came to the finish four lengths before Fly Time which was coupled with Soda Time as the Dixiana entry and a four to five hazard Star An ¬ gela was third to complete the distance being slightly more than a length back of Fly Time and two lengths in the van of Oddesa Helen which beat Lady Flash the second choice by a head for fourth laurels laurelsNine Nine maiden juvenile fillies were under colors in the only event of the day not carrying the claiming clause and the young ¬ sters furnfshed one of the many exciting contests Despite her wide margin at the end Misgivings did not gain the victory until reaching the final furlong when Fly Time weakened rapidly rapidlyWAGERING WAGERING BRISK BRISKFollowing Following two holiday programs the crowd was not a large one but the wagering was brisk and despite overcast skies a re ¬ freshing breeze made conditions ideal The racing strip was at its best bestThere There was some excuse for Soda Time for she stumbled after the first few strides and then was used up in an attempt to reach contention From the start the winner Oddesa Helen and Fly Time dominated the Continued on thirtyeighth page MISGIVINGS GRADUATES Continued from first nageJ pace but Oddesa Helen was poorly handled and she was not prominent after the winner and Fly Time began their battle for leading honors honorsIn In the fifth race for better grade sprinting platers another thrilling finish came when San Lu Miss Webb and Dark Seeker came to the end of six furlongs slightly more than a length apart San Lu held a halflength advantage but it was so close for second that the picture was called for before Miss Webb which drove through the field was awarded the verdict verdictBrides Brides Delight showed the way to the stretch but the winner which was han ¬ dled by Tyrus Meloche wore her down and although he was unable to draw clear he was able to withstand the belated charges of Miss Webb and Dark Seeker the latter driving down on the outside to be much the best of Sis Alice for minor honors honorsODDESA ODDESA FLAG SURPRISES SURPRISESOddesa Oddesa Flag juvenile daughter of Sun Flag and Dark Hour opened the program with a surprise when she was a driving winner at the end of five furlongs Gatlin earned O C Rasch Jrs colors to second place a neck back of the winner and three parts of a length before Mere Frolic an 11 to 10 choice choiceRidden Ridden by Joe Vinas and unable to keep up while Mere Frolic and Gatlin dominated the pace Oddesa Flag which flaunted the Detroit Oddesa Farms colors moved up rapidly when sent to the outside for the drive and wearing the leaders down in the last stages was fast drawing away at the close Fernstar which received good sup ¬ port was taken back when in close quarters and finished under his own courage couragePOPULAR POPULAR TRIUMPH TRIUMPHChance Chance Queen provided another popular triumph and another score for a local pa tron when she carried Mrs Henry Datt ners colors to a driving victory in the sec ¬ ond race over six furlongs Imperial Lu was second and Bardoga third thirdA A strong factor from the start and ridden by J Marrero the winner followed in clos ¬ est pursuit while War Saint and Imperial Lu showed the way to the final furlong and driving to the front in the last stages she reached the finish a neck before Imperial Lu which led the fast finishing Bardoga by a length for second War Saint quit badly after fiveeighths and with the exception of Miss Joker which came from far back to garner fourth laurels the others of the field of ten were never factors factorsAnother Another driving finish and local victory came with the threequarters third race when J L McKnights Catch Fly which was making her 1937 debut turned back Stairs the choice Indefinite and seven others othersWorking Working her way forward steadily while Indefinite Nameoki and Stairs dominated the pace the winner which was ridden by Harry Albrecht drove to the front in the last stages to be a neck before Stairs at the end The latter was three and onehalf lengths in the van of Indefinite which lasted to beat High Devine by a half length for third The latter a strongly supported sec ¬ ond choice pulled up Jame
