EASTERN OWNERS TO COMPETE Division of Greentree String and Manhasset Stable to Race at Keeneland. LEXINGTON, Ky., April 8. Plans for the western division of the Greentree Stable of Mrs. Payne Whitney, and the Manhasset Stable were made known by trainer John Gaver today. He has eleven head at Keeneland and ten at Churchill Downs, but the latter division will be cut down in size when the Kentucky season opens at Keeneland, Thursday, April 14. Eli Yale, Glen Brush and Perfect Peace, now at the Louisville course, are eligible for the Phoenix and Ben Ali Handicaps, two of the four stakes to be offered during the local season, and Gaver intends to bring them here for their engagements. NEED RIDER. With the eastern division in need of a capable rider, Eddie Arcaro will remain in New York with trainer William Norton. Gaver has secured the services of Porter Roberts for the Lexington and Louisville meetings. Roberts, who served his apprenticeship under John Oliver Keene, is considered one of the best of the local riders, and as he has little difficulty in making light weight, Gaver believes he will be a great asset to the stable. Gaver stated he understood Redbreast was training in fine style. It has not been decided whether the son of Chicle would make his 1938 debut in the Wood Memorial Handicap or be shipped to Keeneland for the Blue Grass Stakes. The four-year-old Drowsy, the three-year-olds Birthday and Lourdes, and the two-year-olds Third Degree, Cherry Jam, Express, Mdusie, Catechism, Romaunt and Dutch Flag are now quartered at Keeneland. Josh, Phoenix Hotel Handicap eligible, and seven others which Charles Ferguson has been training at Churchill Downs, were returned to Keeneland today.
