WHEELINGS OFFICIAL STAFF Men Who Will Have Charge of Twenty-Two Day Meeting Are Nationally Known. WHEELING, W. Va., April 15. Nationally known racing men, recruited from the leading tracks of America, form the official staff at Wheeling Downs, which will run twenty-two days from May 28, under the direction of Walter H. Donovan, founder and past president of the National Association of State Racing Commissioners, who is president of the West Virginia Jockey Club. Samuel C. Nuckols, one of the three stewards of the historic Kentucky Derby, will come from Churchill Downs to serve as presiding steward, flanked by J. J. Graddy, midwest official, and Malcolm Brice, Wheeling sportsman. Robert S. Shelley, recently appointed head of racing at Narragansett Park, will be director of racing. His brother, William J. Shelley, will be the new racing secretary. The latter is a member of the official family at Tropical Park and Sportsmans Park. The starter will be Roy Dickerson, noted Kentuckian who sends the horses away at Arlington and Washington Parks. Mortimer M. Mahony, dean of American mutuels men, is director of mutuels, with James Consi-dine as superintendent. Placing judges will be William J. Shelley, Thomas Steele, who serves at Narragansett and Tropical, and Robert P. McAuliffe, official at Arlington, Hialeah and Tropical.
