RENEW HARFORD TODAY ,000 Maryland Stake Race Attracts Brilliant Sun Egret. Jay Jay Actual Top Weight Under 126 Pounds Finance Competing for Chicago Owner. HAVRE DE GRACE, Md., April 15. Following closely Fridays opening Aberdeen Stakes, the Harford Agricultural and Breeders Association offers the ,000 added Harford Handicap as its week-end headliner. The fixture, which will have its twenty-sixth running, is a dash of six furlongs, and eleven excellent sprinters have been named to contest it. Racing secretary Charles J. McLennan has seen fit to allot top weight in the feature to Howard Bruces Jay Jay. The five-year-old son of Wise Counsellor and Dry Girl will be making his first start of the year, but has gone through his training moves in a manner to suggest that he is ready for the question. In 1936 Jay Jay accounted for the race under 103 pounds and since then has established himself as a shifty sort of speedster. Closest in line in the matter of weights is Mrs. E. Denemarks Finance, another five-year-Old. This fellow has been campaigning in Florida during the-winter and should not lack condition. He will have as a stablemate Higher Cloud, which also raced during the winter and turned in some creditable performances. Higher Cloud will be asked to tote 115 pounds, while his better fancied companion will have 122 pounds on his back. Certain to attract considerable attention in the field is A. C. Comptons three-year-old, Sun Egret. This fellow has focused atten- fContinufd on tirentu-sirth vnge. After a successful campaign on the coast, which included a third in the Santa Anita Derby, he returned to display prowess in the East by winning the Rowe Memorial and Bowie Spring Handicap at the recently concluded Bowie meeting. The son of Sun Briar and Polly Egret, which will carry the hopes of Maryland in the Derby and Preak-ness, ran a nice half mile Friday morning in :48, accomplishing his move comfortably. Accompanying Sun Egret in the wagering will be Ral Parrs King Pharamond, the only other three-year-old named for the race. A winner during his California campaign, he is also named for both the Derby and Preak-ness. He is the low weight of the field under 101 pounds. Belair Stud has sent Isolater from New York for his engagement in the Harford. Another five-year-old, he is making his first start of the year, but has trained well and unless he needs a conditioner he could be troublesome under 108 pounds. The excellent record established at Oak-lawn Park by the Motor City Stables Appealing, as well as his previous good form, . has been instrumental in making handi-capper McLennan assign him 118 pounds. WATCH MASKED GENERAL. Another performer which will be watched with keen interest is the Brandywine Sta-, bles Masked General. There are many who are of the opinion that he would have beaten War Admiral in their engagement in the . I . : Pimlico last fall but for running extremely wide. Under 112 pounds here he must be considered a distinct threat. L. E. Ogle has named Clocks for the feature and his present fitness has been amply demonstrated. Winner of the Inaugural Hialeah Park and third in the recently run Rowe Memorial after setting the early pace, he must be considered dangerous. The remaining entrants are the Bomar Stable pair, Grand Slam and Billy Bee. The former won his first race in a considerable period in a class "C" handicap at Bowie recently. Billy Bee, making his first start tf the year at Bowie, was second to Clodion. Under the weight allotments, the field appears to be very evenly balanced and the running should result in a keenly fought out tussle. f 2 - 7 at. t. i !, r e e :- f i- e t ,
