DELAWARE STEEPLECHASING Delaware to Provide Jumping Race Daily if Horses Are Available. Perfect Sod at Stanton Course Thirteen Feature Races on Schedule for Coming Meeting. WILMINGTON, Del., April 15 First flight steeplechasing, the kind racing folk see at Belmont Park, Woodbine Park, Saratoga and Pimlico, will be an attraction of the second meeting of the Delaware Steeplechase and Race Association at Delaware Park, Stanton, June 8 to July 9. There will be jumping events daily if horses can be found to fill them satisfactorily and three stakes, with an aggregate value of 4,500 in added money the Georgetown, about two miles; the Indian River, about two miles and a half, and the Vicmead, about three miles will be inaugurated. Steeplechasing might have been staged at Delaware Park last summer, the first of racing at the Atlantic seaboards newest major plant. As fine a course as can be found in the country had been ready for more than fifteen months. The directorate preferred to wait longer, however, to give a carefully nurtured sod a little more time to set and thicken. That sod is perfect now, as resilient, almost, as live rubber. Moreover it will stay put. The soil is right. Patrons of Delaware Park steeplechasing will never see dust clouds trailing fields of chasers, as racing folk of New York regularly do at Aqueduct and Belmont Park and, even, at Saratoga in very dry seasons. MONEY PRIZES. More than 00,000, possibly as much as 50,000, will be distributed among the supporting horsemen in the course of these twenty-eight days. The programs will be arranged by John Turner, who served as clerk of the course last year, and Charles McLennan, who is secretary, also, at Hialeah Park, Pimlico and Arlington Park, Chicago. Every day, save the days marked for the running of stakes, there will be at least one ,000 purse and the smallest will be ,000. Eight events will be piogrammed daily. Thirteen stakes to be decided, five of them new, will close Monday, April 18. Nominations must be addressed to the Delaware Steeplechase and Race Association, Post Office Box 268, Wilmington, Del. These specials, with the days on which they will be decided, are: Wilmington Handicap, ,000 added, three-year-olds and over, six furlongs, to be run Wednesday, June 8.
