1 KEENELAND TURF NOTES g s B. F. Clark has been, .engaged to direct the training . of the two-year-old chestnut filly Jane Hull, for; Mrs: H.D. and J. Franklin Wallace. The youngster is a daughter of Noah Polly May and has never started. Jockey Bill Hanica .made his first appear-, ance in the saddle, since the fall meeting at River Downs last year. The Louisville boy will ride free lance during the Keeneland meeting. The Lewin stable, owned by Miss Lillian Lewin of Chicago, was an arrival Friday morning at the Fair Grounds, from Tropical Park. The horses came in charge of trainer H. M. Goldstein, who has replaced M. E. Costello. The horses include Mr. Grief, Georgia Meaden, Buttermilk, Glassy Eye, Chispa and Cautivo. Pleased with the opening days program, W. E. Smith, vice-chairman of the racing commission, and Mrs. Smith are remaining for an. indefinite visit. Lady Ariel carried Mrs. Smiths colors to a surprise victory in the third race Thursday. Junius Bell, who accompanied them here from Louisville, returned to the Falls City last night. Starter, William Hamiltons ground crew comprises five members. They are Carl Burns, Cecil Phillips, Linus Pierce, C. H. Kennedy and Val Sulich. Joe Moran, one of the oldest outriders in point of service in the country is leading the fields to the post. When Whichaway won the seventh race, it marked the first time that the old Charles Straus colors were seen in victory since 1914. David Straus, owner of Whichaway, who came down from his home in I Cincinnati for the inaugural card, will re-1 main over for tomorrows program.
